Minister Joly announces $100 million investment to transform Canada’s aluminum sector

The Government of Canada is investing $100 million in Rio Tinto’s ELYSIS project in Jonquière. This investment supports more than 5,000 jobs and helps advance world-class innovation.

As part of Rio Tinto Alcan’s $440 million project, the funding will support the design and construction of a demonstration plant for the ELYSIS™ electrolysis technology. This initiative positions Canada at the forefront of the global transition toward low-carbon, high-value aluminum production.
